LifeCourse Planning Retreats - Charting Your Future

At a LifeCourse Life Planning retreat you will develop an explicit, measurable roadmap for the next stage of your life. The scope of the plan is determined in advance by the client and the OnCourse resources, and ranges from twelve months to a decade. Participants at Life Transformation Retreats develop a first-draft, go-forward plan based on the transformations experienced during the Retreat. LifeCourse Planning Retreats expand this initial plan to a "Whole Life" level, weaving in accountability and encouragement systems for grounding and sustaining positive life transformation.

LifeCourse Planning Retreats are typically three days in length and highly customized to each client's needs. Each plan includes:

  • A definition of the client's current situation and what needs to change - ranging from subtle shifts to radical overhauls. We identify what you need to: 1) Keep doing; 2) Stop doing; 3) Start doing.
  • The specific desired result for each area of change.
  • A minimum of four benefits to the client for achieving the desired result; how your life will be measurably and positively different.
  • Specific, measurable action steps toward achieving the desired results, including dates.
  • An individual accountability partner.

Most Whole Life plans include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

Personal

  • Personal mission
  • Talents, dreams, passions, drives, longings
  • Prioritization of goals; what are the most important things, areas, relationships, beliefs in your life
  • Identity; leadership profile, self-sabotaging behaviors and "shadows"
  • Health, fitness
  • Role of money (personal); making, managing, enjoying, dispersing

Vocational

  • Vocational mission
  • Giftedness
  • Role of money (vocational)
  • Specific vocational plan

Family and other relationships

  • Partner, lover, spouse
  • Parents and extended family
  • Children
  • Guides, mentors, coaches
  • Peers, friends
  • Protégées
  • Relationship traditions

Spiritual

  • Definition of current spiritual "state" and desired "state"
  • Belief / faith evolution
  • Spiritual community
  • Stewardship, service
  • Role of Money (Spiritual)
  • Spiritual disciplines
  • Spiritual direction / guidance

In the broadest sense a LifeCourse retreat gives you a blueprint for addressing the following whole-life questions:

  • Who am I?
  • What is my life for?
  • Where and how do I experience love?
  • What do I believe in?

We examine all the key areas / situations in your life by asking the key initial question:

How is [a specific area / situation] working for you?

If it's working well - Great! We move onto another area. If it's not working well, we ask the second key question:

What do you want to have happen?

This helps us get to your desired results, which we continually refine during the planning retreat as we developed the action steps for reaching your desired results. The third key question is:

What would support for you look like?

This question reinforces that you can't achieve and sustain meaningful life change on your own. It forces you to define a support community (friends, mentors, coaches) to maintain the momentum launched at the retreat.

We encourage LifeCourse participants to commit to a minimum of three months of follow-on support after the retreat with an OnCourse Associate. The Associate's  role is to:

  • Help you refine your plan
  • Make sure the plan is a "stretch" for you, while still being achievable
  • Encourage you through the implementation of your plan
  • Hold you accountable to meet the measurable goals
  • Guide you when you begin to "drift" from your plan; help you "shift" back on track
  • Celebrate your successes
